Definition - a combination of two or more substances and a compound results.

Format:
A + B → AB

Common Synthesis Reactions:

2K(s) + Cl2(g) → 2KCl(s)Potassium + Chlorine Gas → Potassium Chloride

8 Fe + S8 → 8 FeSIron (II) + Sulfide → Iron (II) Sulfide

N2(g) + 3H2(g) → 2NH3(g)
Nitrogen gas + Hydrogen gas → Ammonia gas

Even though it is just combining two substances together, the equation still has to be balanced.
For example,

2H2 + O2 → 2H2O
